Leo decan 1 is ruled by Saturn in the Chaldean system and the Sun (Leo triplicity). The sun shimmers through the constellations of the Great Bear, the Crab and the Great Ship from July 23 to August 2. This section of the zodiac contains most of Sidereal Cancer, known as the Gate Of Man, where souls entered into incarnation. Directly opposite in Capricorn is where we find the Gate of Souls where the man leaves his physical body. In the heart of constellation Cancer is the location of the beehive cluster which resembles a little star nursery. This is an industrious zone though, and with Saturn ruling this decan we find a strong work ethic, family pride and a dutiful spirit.

Leo decan 1 are extremely dedicated to their field of endeavor. Some may pursue a career for the sole reason of achieving high status. They need to be seen as the boss, the leader of the pack or the queen bee. They do not like to play the role of the underling. However, they will doff their hat and play the loyal servant if they have to, anything to get up the ladder. Leo decan 1 can be overly defensive. If threatened, the sidereal Cancer shell can harden into Saturn armour. This is when the famous Leo pride only intensifies its resolve never to show their vulnerable soft core. Encased in that hard skull though is an incredible brain. The Egyptians saw the crab as their sacred scarab beetle. If you look at the Beetle from above it resembles a brain. Leo decan 1 has equal amounts of logic and intuition and they use this to create practical objects that are also beautiful. Leo Decan II 10º-20º

Aug 1 to 10

Leo decan 2 is ruled by Jupiter in both systems. (Sagittarius Triplicity). The sun blazes through the lynx, the watersnake, the lion’s mouth, the great bear, the crab and the great ship from August 3 – 12. You can see straight away that these are a different breed of cat from the sedate and Saturnian Leo decan 1. In this decan, Jupiter gives Leo even more fire and the influence of the defensive crab is replaced by the overtly passionate water-snake. There is less of the religious influence too, for the energy is primal, spontaneous and uncensored. This does not mean these people aren’t spiritual, it’s just that they don’t like bowing down to a Guru, or following established paths to enlightenment. These pioneers will always prefer the road less traveled.

Jupiter ruling here will, of course, exaggerate their bad traits as well as their good. And let’s face it, with a big cat, these traits are going to be extreme one way or the other. Leo is known as the dramatic sign, so here we will certainly get full-blown theatrics. These folk, are typically mouthy. So they are outspoken, fearless in their reasoning and dive into debates with gusto. Combining Zeus with the Lion King and you get someone who relishes power and very happy to give orders. Leo Decan III 20º-30º

Aug 11 to 21

Leo decan 3 is ruled by Mars in both systems (Aries triplicity). The Sun lords it over the constellations of the Lion, the Great Bear, the Little Bear, the Mariners Compass and the Watersnake from August 13 to 22. This is the Lion’s domain, Leo decan 3 is the most stereotypical Leo of them all. The new generation will lose Regulus to Virgo, so they may be a tad less bombastic, but not by much. There are still plenty of stars left in the shimmering Lion.

The main theme with Leo Decan 3 is their belief in the divine right of kings.. ie: themselves. They are always right, their rule is absolute, any challenge to their authority is seen as a betrayal. Loyalty, loyalty and more loyalty, this is the number one demand of their loved ones. In return for their devotion to you, (and by golly they are devoted), they expect you to defend the values of the pride to the nth degree. Any deviation is a sign of rebellion and must be crushed. Leo decan 3 will give you the strong leadership you desire, but only if you submit to their authority 100%.

Less ego-driven signs have a hard time with Leo decan 3 and may feel eclipsed by them at times. It is quite awe-inspiring to watch just how confident and regal these people are in their dealings with everyday life. The negative side of these Lions is cruelty and vengeance since the malefic Mars pushes an already fiery Leo decan 3 to the very limit. They often don’t know when to give up, rather like the Black Knight sketch in Monty Python & The Holy Grail. Even as a stump with a head, he is still yelling ‘Come on then! I’ll bite your legs off’. There are some very strong women in the native’s line-up. Margaret Thatcher literally ‘The Iron Lady’ has Mars here. These formidable lionesses go out on the hunt and bring home the bacon while their male counterparts sleep all day, waking only for sex and to bark orders.
