Capricorn: The Sea Goat “I Use”

December 21 – January 20 | Color = Purple | Tone A Major |

CAPRICORN'S SYMBOL
Capricorns symbol is the head of a goat and the body of a fish. This is symbolic of them being a “Goat-fish” or “Sea-goat.” Some accounts in astrology suggest that Capricorn is the evolved iteration of Aries. This is why in one of the two Capricorn symbols, one can see Aries horns attached to what looks like a Taurus symbol as a 90 degree angle.

CAPRICORN'S RULING PLANET
Capricorn is ruled by the planet Saturn which is the sixth planet from the sun. Saturn is the least dense of the  gas giant planets and it has more than 34 moons. It is the farthest planet that can be seen with the naked eye. In astrology, Saturn is the planet of contraction, authority, limitations, wisdom, control, fear, denial, self-condemnation, time, hardship and order. Saturn traditionally “co-ruled” Aquarius before modern astrology reassigned Aquarius to Uranus. Saturn is associated with Saturday and Christmas. The Festival of Saturnalias took place a few days after the winter began. The symbol for Saturn representsSickle Capricorn is matter over mind which is opposite to Cancer’s mind over matter.

CAPRICORNUS MYTH
Some accounts link Capricorn to Ea or Enki, the primordial god of water and creation that manifested into consciousness to bring wisdom and civilization to humanity. The modern association with Capricorn is related to Zeus’ foster mother Amalthea. Since Zeus’ father Cronus swallowed his siblings before he was born, Cronus’ wife Rhea sent Zeus to live in a sea town and gave Cronus a rock wrapped in a blanket. Amalthea was a satyr, so Zeus’s nanny was half goat. This gave Zeus the opportunity to grow up, overthrow the Titans and free his brothers and sisters from Cronus’ stomach.

Capricorn is the 10th Zodiac sign in the philosophy of astrology. Capricorn can also be called Capricornus, the highest climber of the zodiac hence the “Cap” as in captain, cappuccino or chapel.Capricorn in the old world was considered the gateway to ascension back to Heaven, Amenti, or Nirvana while its opposite sign, Cancer the crab was the gateway to birth on the material plane into humanity.

Female/Night/Negative

The day and night model of the zodiac is based on the sun rising in the east and setting in the west. Different Zodiac Signs are visible at night or day depending on where you live on earth.

Modality Cardinal
The three modes of the elements:

  • Cardinal (initiation),

  • Fixed (Stability)

  • Mutable (Dynamic).

Capricorn is definitely of the Cardinal mode. In the northern hemisphere then begin winter and in the southern hemisphere, they begin summer.

Element Earth
Earth is the material pragmatist that seeks comfort and order in logic and reasoning. This element is associated with the Hexahedron among the Platonic Solids!

Capricorn Decan I 0º-10º

December 22 – Jan 1

Capricorn decan 1 is ruled by Jupiter and Saturn (Capricorn triplicity). It ascends through the constellations of the Archer, the Telescope, the Shield and the Serpent from December 22 – Jan 1. This decan is dominated by the constellation Sagittarius the archer, so these folk aim high with their arrows and shoot to kill. This is a very important time of the year as the Sun crossed the winter solstice point of 0º Capricorn.Capricorn Decan 1So this is a transition point and gives us the darkest, longest night of the year and shortest day in the northern hemisphere. Capricorn 1 looks both backward (Saturn) and forward (Jupiter.) just like the Roman god Janus, which the next month January is named after. Janus rules gates, doorways, time and endings.

So Capricorn decan 1 combines the ambition and authority of Capricorn with Sagittarian enthusiasm and zeal. They have a strong and honourable work-ethic and are so religiously dedicated to whatever path they choose in life, that every business deal they make is sacrosanct.Everything in their life is a crusade, no matter how run-of-the-mill the situation might be. But we are still in tropical Capricorn so this crusading is all very serious, even the comedians among them work incredibly hard to get a laugh. The Tarot card associated with this decan is the two of pentacles “The man in the Two of Pentacles needs to find balance and moderation in his life too.  All work and no play made Jack a dull boy.  If he allows no time for relaxation or fun, he is liable to become tired and tense and he may find his mood fluctuates like the waves behind him, up one day and down the next.” Materialism and ‘matter’ is important to this decan, but also the cycle of time. This is where their prophetic ability comes from, the innate knowledge of natural law. “One Pentacle is higher than the other and surrounding them is a figure of eight loop, the infinity symbol…  All energy is recycled whether it is good or bad for energy is simply energy and cannot be destroyed.  What goes around comes around..” ~ teachmetarot

Capricorn Decan II 10º-20º

Jan 1 to 10

Capricorn decan 2 is ruled by Mars in the Chaldean system and Venus (Taurus Triplicity ruler). The Sun patrols through the constellations of the Archer, the Harp, the Octans, the Peacock and the Eagle from Jan 1 to 10. This is undoubtedly the most authoritative decan of Capricorn. The heat of Mars makes it strong in command and extremely competitive. These subjects need to display their achievements in material form and will show off their strengths in quite an ostentatious manner (Venus).Capricorn Decan 2Capricorn decan 2 does things grandly, but there is the risk of them having delusions of grandeur also. The centaur here really aims high, just like status-seeking tropical Capricorn. The artists and musicians among them have a weakness for finely-crafted furniture and will want the highest quality instruments to play on. (

Workmanship is of the utmost importance, for Capricorn decan 2 cannot stand cheap, plastic, mass-produced junk. If they can’t afford the solid oak dining table they really want, then they will just trash through substandard items. This is because they believe that it won’t be long until they can actually afford the high-spec version.Capricorn decan 2 believes they were made for greater things, so the ‘trash’ doesn’t get treated with respect. That goes for people too… The worst offenders of this decan can be very bigoted and may even refer to the lower classes as plebs or worst still ‘savages’. Capricorn decan 2 are missionaries and believe is their duty to civilize the ‘rougher’ folk. The tarot card associated with this decan is the Three Of Pentacles. This card depicts the architect and specialized tradesmen. It is about learning practical skills and putting long-term commitment into building something that will last. Churches are both something useful, lasting and sacred. In this incarnation, you are ” being rewarded at long last for all the effort you have been putting in for so many years (Lifetimes). Others are prepared to back you now and offer support where in the past you struggled alone with your ideas and plans for the future.” ~ teachmetarot. These folk can be elitists, but the material gain that comes with this decan is usually well earned and deserved. The evolved native does not become complacent, nor expect rewards to be handed to them on a plate. Everything is worked hard for and material gains are valued and reinvested for future generations.

Capricorn Decan III 20º-30º

January 11 to 20

Capricorn decan 3 is ruled by the Sun and Mercury (Virgo Triplicity). The Sun takes noble strides through the constellations of the Harp, Peacock, Eagle, Fox, Archer and the Indian from January 11 to 19. This decan successfully combines artistic and musical ability with a great business mind. These arty goats are aspirational and think very highly of themselves, but don’t brag about their talents. They are far too elegant for that brash type of behaviour and they will always have enough admirers to blow their trumpet for them. Capricorn decan 3 just know they come from a higher place; Whether its a royal castle, a spiritual mountain or even an alien starship. They feel connected to the “gods” up there but can equally feel the same connection with spirituality in nature.

These folk have an ‘All seeing eye’ because of their elevated perspective and have great vision. They can see far into the future as well as far into the past. Their focus may be more in evaluating history than looking to the future, however. They know so well where they and others are coming from, that they can actually make very accurate predictions as to the likely outcome of an event. This is why they are often so successful in business. These goats are often underestimated because often they are just too aesthetically pleasing. The really beautiful ones are either feared or treated as bimbos. Capricorn decan 3 have a natural understated charm, and refined sense of dress (Unless Uranus is in aspect to the AC, see Russell Brand!). Gaudy, cheap materials are not for them. The tarot card associated with Capricorn decan 3 is the 4 of pentacles. “Fear of scarcity is often related to The Four of Pentacles so you may worry unnecessarily about money if you have come from a background of poverty.  This leads you to hoard or penny-pinch, even when you have enough money.”This card supports the general tenacity of the goat, nothing is thrown out if it can be renovated, and if something has to be binned it will be recycled or given to charity. “The Four of Pentacles is a positive and welcome card for savings, investments or retirement plans. It indicates that you are accumulating goods, wealth and possibly even power.  Your financial situation has been steadfastly growing over a period of time (many lifetimes) but this is not by chance or even pure luck.” ~ teachmetarot

Ruling Planet: Saturn

Saturn “The Wayshower” is considered to be “Father Time” the old man with the scythe, the angel of death or “The Grimm Reaper!” Saturn can also be represented as a newborn baby as in “The Baby New Year” metaphor that is used as people in the western world transition from one year to next on the Gregorian Calendar. So it’s not too hard to see why Capricorn is ruled by Saturn where it gets much of its symbolism and character. Saturn represents foundation, duty, structure, boundaries, career choices and shared community development and order. Saturn’s placement in your natal chart influences how and when you learn life lessons and where practicality evolves into wisdom. Saturn’s influence helps the individual contextualize information in order to apply the most relevant and compatible solutions. dealing with the practical reality of life. One thing to be aware of is the amount of anxiety Saturn can create when an individual becomes obsessed with “doing the right thing” or general perfectionism. If one’s mind becomes full with the mind chatter of Saturn’s cautious nature, the lack of acting or taking a chance could mean missed opportunities. Saturn is a gas giant with a 29.5-year orbit around the sun. Saturn is considered a social planet.

Ruling House #10

The tenth house describes your career and other long-range goals, public reputation, superiors and those in authority. It also relates to your father and his influence in your life. The 10th house is your connection to society at large; your public achievements, activities, and honors. Your vocation; authority figures in your life and your attitude toward them. The tenth house is also your determination to succeed and your desire for public recognition make you a born leader — and are excellent indicators of professional success. Capricorn is the 10th house of the Zodiac on the ecliptic. Capricorn can be serious, orderly, systematic, conventional, and economical, usually resulting in eventual success over time. Like the goat, Capricorn is steady and sure-footed as it climbs to the top, always reaching for higher goals and the high ground for the strategic advantage (“goat’s eye view”). Capricorn always makes it to the top when their mind is set on a goal. Capricorn usually has exceptional organizing and managing skills. This often creates both entrepreneurs, corporate climbers and trendsetters. Capricorn sets goals aware of all the necessary steps requires to succeed, where others have failed and sustain that success into a model that can be copied by others.

Modern Day Capricorn, always running up that mountain so fast that their “hooves” wear down before their will.

Planets in Capricorn express themselves pragmatically and in a rather eclectic and sometimes opportunist manner. The sign of Capricorn channels nebulous “flights of fancy” into tangible measurable outcomes associated with growth and prosperity.

When a planet is in Capricorn, the person can seem stoic yet willing to produce blood, sweat, and tears to reach their goals. Conversely, if the person suffers from self-doubt, they can spiral into a negative unending well of shadow until they decide that they will do their best instead of slack off.

Because Capricorn is Ruled by Saturn, sometimes others perceive them as a cold, dark, and sometimes selfish. Like other earth signs, Capricorn jagged and rocky facade only protects a watery emotional interior that wants the very best for all those that they care for.

Capricorn uses all earthly tool for their climbs, even using people if and when necessary. I know, “USE” is often associated with the context of abuse. But since Saturn is exalted in Libra, Capricorn actually goes about this diplomatically using the very, “you scratch my back and I will scratch yours,” manner known as reciprocity. All the while maintaining a calm, cool, poker-face demeanor that would put any casino out of business. Capricorn the sea-goat is known for climbing to the highest peaks and can also swim in the lowest depths of emotion.

Physically Capricorn rules the knees, joints of the body, and the skin and bones. Like Saturn rules thresholds and boundaries, you can see why Capricorn would rule these areas of the human body.

It is said to have a feminine or YIN nature, so Capricorns, therefore, are often more reactive in their environments. This is why some Capricorns can be, well, reactionary. But remember, for every conservative reactionary type, there is the “unicorn” which will toot their own “unique” horn about not feeling like the description of typical Capricorns. This is usually someone with Mercury, Mars and or Venus in Aquarius or Sagittarius. The rarest and most INTENSE Capricorns are those with an ascendant and or moon in the opposite zodiac sign of Cancer. As a Cardinal sign, Capricorn is often a pioneering, goal-oriented, individual that channels energy into strategic planning to reach their long-term goals. As an Earth sign, goals tend to be practical and related to material interests such as money, health, and wellness, serenity, safety, and security. People often think that Capricorns are all about *C.R.E.A.M., but if you look at their motivations, it’s more about serenity, safety, and relief from stress and discomfort, such things are connected to money, hence the jump in logic.

Capricorn represents, Ea, Enki and Pan. It gets a bad reputation often being associated with the Devil.
